Wellbeing and innovation were a key focus when IM Group approached Squaredot to design their new headquarters.

IM Group wanted their new multi-site campus headquarters, based in Solihull, to quietly communicate their values through innovative and wellbeing focused design concepts. IM Group and Squaredot were also in agreement that people are pivotal to any business, and as such they were a key focus throughout the design process. Each of the three buildings located on campus has a different purpose; The Gate is an office space, The Academy provides training facilities, and The Rock headquarters for a charity, so Squaredot had a big job ahead. 

After an in depth analysis, detailed utilisation study, and week-long observation of IM Group’s people, Squaredot gained a clear understanding of how each different business operated currently, and the individual requirements needed across the new campus. An innovative concept was born, based on the journey around campus and the experience that could be created for staff and visitors alike. Traditional notions of office planning were challenged, and an open environment with changing landscapes and points of interest to encourage fluidity, visibility, movement and connections on all levels was created.

The layouts designed offered a flexible, collaborative, and inspirational approach to working for every business level. Different work styles and activities were reflected in “Neighbourhoods”, which provided diverse settings to encourage movement and communication. The second floor of The Gate was dedicated entirely to wellbeing, something which was at the heart of this project, and includes a restaurant, gym, recreational activities, social spaces and relaxation areas. Additionally, green spaces on roof terraces support a variety of outdoor functions inclusive of everyone, including a putting green and a herb garden. People are encouraged to use these spaces throughout the whole day to work rest or play.
