Singlewell HS1 Maintenance Delivery Unit (MDU). A continuation and evolution of Network Rail’s principles.
The Maintenance Delivery Unit (MDU) at Singlewell was designated as the base for all Network Rail trackside operations for HS1, and as such was part of a much bigger story. However, it was still integral that the values, principles, behaviours and working standards that Network Rail adhere to across all facilities were delivered through the implementation of an intelligent and innovative design – something which Squaredot were more than capable of.
The state-of-the-art facility in Kent continues the ongoing radical approach to challenging the preset notions of what an office landscape should look like, and how it should perform, and as such saw an evolution of the DNA Guidelines previously introduced and implemented by Squaredot. After carrying out a detailed workplace analysis, Squaredot was able to provide intelligent design choices and recommendations to fit the key requirements of the MDU and those working within it.
The final refurbished work space delivered by Squaredot offers staff the opportunity to adopt a more agile way of working out of the Singlewell location, in line with Network Rails other MDU’s, training facilities and office spaces. Consistency across the property portfolio, which oers environments for oice based and track based sta, as well as their various work activities, was a key part of the DNA Guidelines and project as a whole. The aim was to align the way in which employees thought of each other, their roles and their surroundings. Bringing the people of Network Rail a common place of belonging has gone a long way in improving sta morale, community and retention across the board.
