A Social Workspace That Bolsters Global Design Standards, with Sustainability at its Core
Following a major acquisition by a global Big Tech company, an award winning gaming and technology development company relocated to a new Leamington Spa office space. A leader in game experiences powered by user-generated content (UCG), this modern company's goal was to create a workspace that supported collaboration, innovation, and sustainability while catering for the predicted growth in coming years.
The new office space was designed to feature state-of-the-art technology infrastructure – a vital part of this project due to the work they do and adding to the businesses USP’s. While the previous environment was a disjointed collection of spaces, with significant barriers to communication and community spirit, the new environment could be bespoke designed by Squaredot to ingeniously link up the acoustics laboratories and video rooms, and include a motion capture room for gaming development, essential in the production of their products. To foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, the design incorporated large open plan spaces, workshop areas, huddle spaces, and a communal social space. This range of spaces support both introverted and extroverted people, as well as neurodiverse individuals who may have sensory requirements. The community spirit was further enhanced with single, large social space that offered a joined-up way of resting, relaxing and communicating.
Working closely with the parent company, the Squaredot design team familiarised themselves with global design standards and the brand as a whole, before adding their own unique look & feel to reflect the location and end user team requirements. The overall aesthetic of the space was modern and edgy, reflecting the company's brand and the unique character of the location, and was complemented by carefully considered sustainable features and practices. Strict sustainability policies were at the heart of this design, and converting the CAT A space successfully meant a carefully controlled MEP design to minimise the carbon footprint.
Squaredot played a crucial role in the project, working closely with the parent company and Cushman & Wakefield who acted as Project Manager and MEP designers. Together all parties ensured that the design met the company's global standards and the specific needs of the end users. Squaredot continued their role supporting the process through construction & handover, reviewing the build and ensuring the quality met the high level of detail and expectations of the parent company.
The project was successfully completed and the new space has become a stand-out example of sustainable practices, social values, and cutting edge technology all coming together.
